Arielle Kitio, programming to help fight tuberculosis

Arielle Kitio, who is completing her PhD in “Applied Software Engineering” at Yaounde University 1, is studying the epidemiological surveillance of tuberculosis. “The cost is multiplied by two for the health system of Cameroon in case of relapse of a patient with tuberculosis. And the risk of dying within two weeks climbs to 70% in case of the second relapse, ” according to the young woman of 26 years, NEF ambassador for Cameroon. The epidemiological surveillance system for tuberculosis, developed with the team of the international laboratory UMMISCO (Combined Mathematical Modeling and Computational Systems Complex), has already enabled more than 4000 patients to be followed. And this study can be used to detect and predict possible outbreaks of infection in the country.

At the same time, the young woman has created “a language and a playful programming environment built on the structure of French sentences, which is close to natural language, to help young Francophones aged 7 to 15 to be easily introduced to creative programming. , without English being a brake, “she explains. She is developing this activity through her start-up Caysti and hopes to launch the latest version of her “abcCode” at the French Institute of Yaoundé.
